Wind Products

The development of microgeneration is incredibly important to us. As such we want to make sure our customers have the very best for their individual situation. We have carried out in-depth research on the potential products for the Good Energy Shop and met the potential installers face-to-face.

For our wind products we have aimed for the medium to high range with a variety of different installed capacities to allow for a variety of different power outputs. The brands we have chosen are Proven and Fortis.

Why Proven?

Proven has been making turbines since 1982 and their quality has been constantly valued by customers on the Good Energy Home Generation plan.

Proven Energy was founded over 25 years ago as a small family-run business with a big mission - to help create a greener world and healthier environment. With over 1500 turbines installed worldwide, Proven Energy has built up a global reputation for robust, reliable small wind turbine performance and are helping save CO2 and money all over the world

Proven wind turbines are robust and designed to minimize noise and maintenance.  The patented Proven Flexible Blade System enables the turbine to generate power in light or strong winds. The system combines innovative design and the latest techniques in advanced composite technology to allow the blades to bend and flex. This means Proven turbines are capable of peak performance in high winds - even in hurricanes and typhoons.

In terms of noise the Proven turbines have a direct drive generator, which operates without a gearbox. The generator load is continuously monitored to keep the blades rotating at a low speed, whilst optimising power output. All that can be heard is the swish of blades turning in the wind, which is virtually unnoticeable.

Why Fortis?

Fortis Wind Energy have a pretty good reputation when it comes to micro wind turbines. With 25 years experience in wind energy they are the European market leader with more than 6000 installed wind turbines world wide.

At Good Energy Shop we like simplicity and Fortis pride themselves on what they call their 'no-trouble hardware'. This means that they supply a complete working wind turbine, including the foundations and the electrical connections. A total package, including a five year warranty. See Fortis technical concept for details of the different components.

The turbines also require very little maintenance. The materials used are stainless steel, plastics or galvanised metal, so the turbines will last for 20 years. And, just to prove it, Fortis are now just getting their original clients coming back after 22 years for their second turbine.

A concern of many people is that wind turbines are noisy. However Fortis turbines have been designed to be very quiet. They have direct-drive systems to avoid gear box noise - this also increases efficiency. In general, the wind itself makes more noise than a wind turbine and it is very unlikely that any noise from small wind turbines will be heard at more than 30m.
